West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, having exited the India Maitri alliance, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress party. She recently voiced her doubts about the Congress’s ability to win 40 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and provided reasons for her skepticism.
Developments in Kolkata (Feb. 02): As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, dynamics within the India Maitri coalition seem to be shifting. Insiders have reportedly turned against Congress. Banerjee, who announced her party’s (Trinamool Congress) solo participation after leaving the alliance, has again expressed dissatisfaction with Congress. She speculates that Congress’s chances of securing 40 national seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are doubtful, causing both anger and anxiety within the Congress ranks.
There is uncertainty over Congress winning 40 seats in the Lok Sabha election. In discussions within the India Maitri coalition, a proposal was made to allocate only 2 seats to Congress in West Bengal. However, Congress demanded more seats, leading to a breakdown in negotiations. Following these talks, Banerjee disclosed that there had been no further dialogue with Congress.
Additionally, Banerjee has challenged Congress to demonstrate its strength by winning against the BJP in Banaras and showing the courage to secure victories in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
