Samsung’s Latest: VoWiFi Call Recording on Galaxy Phones

Samsung’s recent update has brought a significant enhancement to its Galaxy smartphone range, particularly with the introduction of VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi) call recording. Initially exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series, this feature is expected to be rolled out to older models as well. VoWiFi offers a distinct advantage in audio quality over traditional cellular calls, especially in locations with poor cellular reception or indoor environments. This improvement is attributed to the use of WiFi networks for calls, which also helps in reducing call disconnections due to network problems.

The implementation of call recording in VoWiFi mode by Samsung is particularly notable. Unlike some other systems, Samsung’s design does not announce the recording of the call, thus enabling automatic recording when the feature is activated. This functionality is available in Galaxy smartphones with the latest dialer app version (15.1.66 or newer), and covers calls made over VoLTE (4G) and VoNR (5G) networks. Users can easily set up automatic call recording by navigating through the Phone app to Settings and then the Record calls menu, where they can enable the Auto record calls option. The storage impact of recording calls is minimal, ensuring that the phone’s storage capacity isn’t significantly affected.

Additionally, Samsung Italia has integrated VoWiFi with their latest One UI 5.0 interface, based on Android 13, facilitating a smooth transition between VoWiFi and VoLTE networks, thus enhancing call stability and quality. VoWiFi supports a range of network services including call waiting, customer care, voicemail, and emergency calls, providing comprehensive indoor coverage and voice service quality.

Enabling VoWiFi on Samsung Galaxy smartphones is straightforward. Users need to access the phone settings, choose Connections, and then turn on the Wi-Fi Calling option. This feature enables HD quality voice and video calls when connected to a wireless network. It is important to note, however, that for emergency calls, smartphones will default to using the mobile network instead of VoWiFi.

In summary, Samsung’s addition of VoWiFi call recording and the seamless network transition capability between VoWiFi and VoLTE demonstrate their commitment to enhancing the user experience and call quality in their smartphones. This feature not only improves call quality but also offers a dependable option for call recording, which can be vital in various scenarios.
