The 69th edition of the Filmfare Awards, hosted in Gujarat, made a striking debut, inaugurating with grandeur and style. Apaarshakti Khurana and Karishma Tanna led the ceremony, introducing an array of entertainment, including a glamorous fashion show and the prestigious awards presentation. The fashion spectacle, a partnership with renowned designers Shantanu and Nikhil Mehta, infused an extra touch of elegance to the event.
Held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, and backed by Gujarat Tourism, the Filmfare Awards spanned two eventful days. The opening day, January 27, was dedicated to celebrating the technical prowess of Bollywood, featuring a vibrant fashion show. Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor, along with a bevy of models, took to the ramp, displaying Shantanu and Nikhil Mehta’s exquisite designs, making it a focal point of the evening.
‘Sam Bahadur’, led by Vicky Kaushal, garnered recognition in three technical categories: Best Costume Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Production Design. Hosts Apaarshakti Khurana and Karishma Tanna brought their unique charm to the proceedings, enhancing the ceremony’s appeal.
Ganesh Acharya clinched the Best Choreography award for ‘What Jhumka..’ from ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, electrifying the audience with his dance performance. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ’12th Fail’ took home the Best Editing award. Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawaan’ impressed with wins in the Best Action Direction and Best Special Effects categories.
The second day, January 28, witnessed the distribution of awards in other significant categories. ‘Animal’, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, shared the Best Sound Design award with ‘Sam Bahadur’, while ‘Tree of Us’, shot by Avinash Arun Dhaware, won Best Cinematography.
Fashion designer Nikhil Mehra reflected on his proud association with the Filmfare Awards, noting their earlier collaborations, such as Miss India. He highlighted the event’s importance for Gujarat’s film enthusiasts and praised the state’s Tourism Department for its role in the event’s success. Singer Parthiv Gohil also expressed enthusiasm, anticipating dedicated Filmfare Award events for Gujarati cinema in the future.
